Introduction to Derivatives

Derivatives are financial instruments whose value is derived from an underlying asset such as:

• Stocks
• Indices
• Commodities
• Currencies

The price of a derivative changes based on the movement of the underlying asset.

The two most commonly used derivatives are:

• Futures
• Options

Why are Derivatives Used?

Derivatives are mainly used for:

• Hedging risk
• Taking market exposure
• Managing volatility
• Learning market behaviour and price movement

Simple Example:

If someone believes a stock or index may move in the future, derivatives allow participation without directly buying the full quantity of the asset.

Derivatives are powerful instruments and should always be approached with proper learning, discipline, and risk management.

In markets, understanding the instrument is more important than chasing quick results 📈
